Bing chat fails reverse logic, hallucinates, and outright lies
Bing chat fails to reason about who owns Princes and Madmen blog (me) and outright lies and claims that “Princes and Madmen” is a book written by Matthew Weiner. (There is no such book).
EDIT 2023-09-30: ‘hallucinates and lies’ is an unfortunate anthropomorphism that detracts from the issue of tech that creates false information and for which prompts fail to result in self-correction.
In response to a post on LinkedIn about how generative AI fails to resolve B = A when told A = B, I wrote:
I have seen this behaviour ‘in the wild’ with Bing’s Chat search service. If
you ask Bing Chat ‘What websites does Daniel Dickinson from Midland Ontario
have’ BC returns two out of three of my sites. For my old political, personal,
creative and mental health blog: https://www.princesandmadmen.ca/ it failed
to return a result. This is despite a mini-bio on my about page, and direct
links from https://www.danielfdickinson.ca/, which is was resume, tech blog,
and professional site, which it was able to find quite well.
Initially, given a tendency to be paranoid, I thought I was being shadowbanned, but reading this post gives me a different, more probable, reason.
OTOH, when it comes to “Princes and Madmen” Bing hallucinates and outright lies (below), so I’m not sure what to make of that.
For what it’s worth ‘regular search’ isn’t getting this right either; of course, the point is that ‘AI’ is not actually intelligent and doesn’t actually ‘know’ anything, or figure things out. Stochastic parrot at best.
